The Living Room Project

On December 2008 TDCSS in conjunction with community action groups and the Seventh Day Adventist Church, began a new volunteer program to begin addressing the immediate needs of the chronic alcoholics and homeless in Terrace. The program was called the Homeless Outreach Program and consisted of a temporary day center that provided relief from the cold, a safe place to meet with others, washroom facilities, a bowl of hot soup when available, and a cup of coffee.

Volunteers donated their time to address needs as they became apparent. Warm coats, clothing, blankets, and other items were provided as available.

Initially this warming center was to be open only during the cold months and saw 10-20 people accessing the center each. That number quickly increased and the request to remain open was heard.

In September 2009, local businesses banded together to donate the monthly rental fees for the building allowing the Homeless Outreach Program's program to continue being offered all year around. Today Cambria Gordon continues to pay the rent.
